Real Black Magic Stories: The Midnight Pond of Nana Bari
My name is Kamrul Hasan. I am an old listener. Today I want to share one of the real black magic stories I heard from my eldest khala.
Before I begin, I will say a few things to make it easier to follow. This happened at my nana’s house. My nana was a former chairman. In front of the house is a pond, and behind it is another. The one in front is called the door pond, and the one behind is called the house pond. My eldest khala was the eldest of everyone in my nana’s house, and everyone respected her a lot.
The Pond at Midnight
In the sixties and sixty-fives, and even in the seventies and eighties, girls in the village were considered grown up once they were eight or ten years old. Then it was considered bad for them to bathe in the daytime. So my eldest khala always bathed in the pond right before or just after the Fajr adhan, so that nobody would say anything.
That day too, she woke and went to bathe. In those days they had no clock, so they had no exact sense of time. They went by the adhan when they bathed. Khala thought it was a little while before Fajr. Everyone was asleep. She got up and went to the ghat. Then something nagged at her a little. Every day at this time a faint light begins to come, but that day it had not. Still she thought it would probably come a little later. She got into the pond.
Suddenly she saw that on the far side of the pond, the bamboo clumps and many old trees were swaying as if in a storm. She thought a storm was coming and decided to finish her bath quickly and go. But a little later she noticed that the storm was only happening on that side of the pond, and nowhere else. She was an old hand at such things, and thought, perhaps it is happening over there, and the wind is not reaching this side properly. So she swam to the other side. There she found that no wind touched her body, yet the trees were moving. Then she grew a little afraid. She tried to swim back to this side. But it felt as if some unseen force was holding her from the other side.
My eldest khala knew many duas and durood. From childhood they had been taught Arabic. She was reciting many duas, and trying to scream, but no sound came from her mouth. With great difficulty she swam back to this side. But now she could not climb up onto the bank. It felt as if someone below was holding her. She tried again and again to scream, but nobody heard.
In that house, my eldest khala’s phupu, one of my nanus, lived in a separate house. Just then my eldest khala saw a man in white clothes, like a hujur, very tall and fair, passing in front of her. In front of him were some black, human-like things, and a good jinn seemed to be taking the bad jinn away. Seeing this, my eldest khala screamed and fainted.
What the Healer Found
Then my nanu had come out to go to the washroom. She saw that someone was lying at the pond ghat, half in the water and half on the bank. She took a hurricane lamp and went to look, and saw that it was her elder brother’s daughter, my eldest khala, lying there unconscious. She screamed. My nana, my nana’s brother and my uncles all came. Khala was brought into the house. Three or four hours later khala regained consciousness. But she began to talk nonsense. My nana thought perhaps she had gone to bathe too early in the night and seen things. I should say that khala had gone that day not at Fajr but at one or two in the middle of the night, because when she woke she had thought it would not be long till Fajr.
After that my eldest khala would speak nonsense, scratch anyone who sat beside her, and do many other things like that. Quite a few days went by, but khala was not getting well. Then my nanu had a brother who led prayers at a mosque and also did this kind of work, though not with the help of any dark words of kufr, but with the help of the Quran. He was invited. He came to my nana’s house. As he entered the house he said to my nana, “Dulabhai, I am sensing something, there is something in your house.” My nana did not take it seriously. He said, “Allah has not made it that jinn do not exist, but why would a jinn come to my house?” Then after my nana and nanu begged him, he said, “All right, I will look into it.”
There is a prayer at night, I do not exactly remember its name. After offering that prayer, my nanu’s brother saw that black magic had been done on my eldest khala. This was the reason khala had woken at midnight and gone to the pond. They had wanted to kill her. The black magic had been done out of enmity with my nana. He told this to my nanu. She asked, “Who did it?” He said, “There is no need to know that, Apa. Let us try to see that she gets well.” Then he recited dua and durood and tried to seal my nana’s house, but despite many attempts he could not. He said, “Let me find out properly how it can be done.”
Three days later he came back with two or three more people. He said, “It is fortunate. It was done in order to kill her. But perhaps someone else’s dua, or yours, is with her. That is why not all the bad jinn could enter her. There was only one jinn, a little worse than the others. Only that one could attack her. What khala saw, a white man taking something black away, that was the good jinn taking the bad jinn away. But it could not take one. That one stayed and kept possessing khala, wanting to kill her. If it had not been able to take all of them that day, it would have killed her right there.”
My nanu’s brother does not like the work of kufr, because in Islam it is haram. But the people he had brought with him know it. They found quite a few amulets inside my nana’s house and around it. They carefully took them out and said, “Since a danger has passed over her, you should slaughter a cow or two goats and feed the poor and needy. And on the day you feed them, early in the morning, on a Friday, an auspicious and good day, throw these amulets into a canal or river. Because it is said that when something is thrown into a canal or river with a current, it is destroyed.”
Later my nanu became curious to open the amulets and look. When they were opened, there was a lot of writing inside, and many pieces cut from my eldest khala’s clothes. My nanu asked, “Who did this? We would like to know.” My nanu’s brother said, “It must be someone close to you. Otherwise they could not have got these. Because to take these from a woman, they had to do a lot. There is no need to know these things. Always stay careful.”
How She Recovered
I should say that in the meantime my eldest khala’s condition became very bad. She acted crazy, went out of the house, did not keep her clothes in order and tore them. She even tried to harm herself. But by Allah’s will, after those amulets were removed and the house was sealed, slowly my eldest khala became a little normal, though not completely. After the amulets were fully destroyed and the poor were fed in Allah’s name, some days later my eldest khala was completely well.
This was my story.
