Real Paranormal Experiences: The Hostel Bones That Vanished
Assalamu alaikum. I am Hasib. My family home is in Khulna. For my studies I live in Dhaka. I am studying engineering and I live in a hostel. You know what hostel life is like. Adda with friends, studies, going around, all together it was going quite well. For about the first year and a half, nothing strange or unnatural happened in my life, everything was completely normal. But towards the end of 2021, something began to happen that completely changed my life. The whole account of my life was turned upside down. I will tell it from the start. This is one of the real paranormal experiences that has shaped me.
Bones for the Jinn
It was towards the end of 2021. Four of us lived in one room. The four roommates were having a good time together. You know hostel food, dal, vegetables and monotonous meat. Now and then we ordered food from outside. When you sit down to study at night, you get hungry. Then we would all put in money and order food. That night we decided to eat kadai meat. The food came and we all ate with great pleasure. After eating, a lot of bones were left over. One of my friends was putting the bones into a packet to throw in the dustbin. I joked, “Hey brother, these are food for the jinn. Don’t throw them in the dustbin. Leave them in a corner outside somewhere, some jinn will come and eat them.” My friend enjoyed the joke. Laughing, he put the box of bones in my hand and said, “You’re right, brother. Go on, you go and put it in a corner yourself. Someday they’ll come and eat it.”
I took the box and opened the door of the room. As soon as I opened it, I put the box down on the floor right by the door. Then I turned and started back toward the room. As I came in, another friend handed me an empty water bottle and said, “Brother, put this empty bottle outside too. When the cleaner comes in the morning he will take it all together.” I took the bottle and turned toward the door again to put it outside. Just then my eyes went to that box of bones. I could not believe my own eyes. The box was completely clean. There was not a single bone inside, it was shining. My head went blank. Everything was gone in just ten seconds! I hurried back into the room and told my friends, “Brother, the bones have vanished.” My friends started laughing. They thought I was joking. One said, “Oh, drop your jokes. You must have hidden them somewhere yourself to scare us. And now you are acting. Forget it.” I said nothing more. I thought perhaps a cat had come and taken them. But I knew myself that it was in no way possible for a cat to vanish with so many bones in five seconds. Still I consoled myself. The matter ended there, and we did not think more about it.
Exactly one week later we ordered kadai meat again at night. We ate just as before. When it was time to get rid of the bones, my friend gave me the same box and teased, “Here, brother, your jinn come to you for food. Go give these to your jinn.” Our room had a balcony attached. Another friend said, “Brother, put it on the balcony. Today we too will see how your jinn makes the bones disappear before our eyes.” I put the box on the balcony. I knew very well that the bones had no chance of going anywhere from the balcony. Because of the way the balcony was built, it was difficult even for a cat to get in. I came back into the room and sat down to chat with my friends.
Three or four minutes passed. Then one friend said, “Come on, let’s go and check the box.” We all went to the balcony together. We opened the box. It was completely empty, clean. Nothing inside, not a piece of bone, not a speck of dirt. This time my friends also got a little rattled. Not a word came from their mouths. But you know boys, even about a frightening thing they want to laugh it off and joke. My friends said, “Perhaps something happened somehow. There is nothing to worry about.” The matter was buried like that.
Footsteps in the Room
Some days after that, around eight o’clock at night, I was alone in the room, with all my friends out. The room light was off. I had put on headphones and was watching something on my laptop. Suddenly it felt as if someone struck something very hard under my bed. The sound was so loud that I jumped. I quickly took the headphones off my ears. My mind was not working, I was trying to understand what the sound was. Just then a shoe slid out from under my bed and went under the other bed, right before my eyes. My throat dried up with fear. It was hard to swallow. I leapt off the bed and switched on the room light. I pulled over a chair and sat on it. I did not dare go toward the bed. After a while my friends came back into the room. I told them nothing, because I knew that if I told them they would laugh at me again.
The next day I was alone in the room again. The same time, eight at night. My friends had all gone out to eat. I was sitting on the bed scrolling my mobile. Suddenly it felt as if something very heavy fell onto the bed next to mine. The sound was quite loud too. In fear I got up from my bed, trying to work out what the sound was. When I looked toward the bed, it felt as if someone was getting up from it and walking away. The exact sound a person makes getting up from a bed. I ran and pulled over a chair and sat. My hands and feet were trembling with fear. Meanwhile my friends came back into the room. I could not hold myself back any more, and told them everything, including the sliding shoe the night before. They did not take it seriously at all, saying I was thinking too much, it was all a trick of my mind. I said no more. I thought perhaps it really was a trick of the mind. But the real trouble was only beginning.

A Changed Temper
In 2022 my nature and character started to change somehow. My temper was irritable all the time. I got terribly angry at the smallest things. Nothing felt good. It felt as if nobody should talk to me. I wanted to be alone. I have a younger brother who often came to see me at the hostel. We used to go out together, eat outside and have adda for hours. But I cut off contact even with him. When he came I felt irritated. Going out was out of the question, I did not even talk to him properly. My brother understood too. He asked, “What has happened to you?” I said, “Nothing at all, I’m just in a bad mood.” He said nothing more and accepted it. Like this the month of Ramadan passed. The Eid of Ramadan went by, and Eid of Qurbani came. But this problem of mine was not getting better at all.
It was the second day of Qurbani Eid. That day my temper was even worse. I got up in the morning, got ready and sat alone. All day my cousins called me many times, “Come, let’s go there, let’s do this.” But I did not go anywhere. At night my cousins all came to me and forcibly took me to their adda. At some point while talking there, I got into a terrible fight with one cousin. A quarrel over a very ordinary matter. I had never done such a thing in my life with anybody. I started shouting loudly at him and cursing him, and even pushed him. My brother and my cousins were all astonished. They could not understand what had suddenly happened to me. Because I am normally a very cheerful person, and I had never fought with anyone in my life. And that day I quarrelled so terribly that even I am astonished when I think of it.
The Sleepless Months
The Eid holiday ended. I came back to the hostel. After I got back to Dhaka, my temper went completely normal again, as if nothing had happened. But the real terrifying part began after that. One night I was lying down to sleep. Suddenly I heard many people whispering. It felt as if many people had gathered around and were talking in very low voices. I strained my ears to listen, but the sound stopped. After a while the sound began again. Three or four times I got out of bed and looked around, then lay down again. Each time I lay down, the sound came again. I thought maybe a sound was coming from my laptop or phone. I checked both, both were off. Then I thought maybe someone downstairs was talking on the phone and the echo was reaching my room. I went downstairs and saw nobody there. The whole building was quiet. I came back to my room.
This happened the first day, the second day, and the third day too. I was getting irritated. I would go and look for someone myself, but I found nobody. About three or four days passed like this. Then one night I lay down, and there was no sound at all, complete silence. I thanked Allah in my heart. I thought, thank goodness, at least tonight I can sleep in peace. But that night sleep did not come to my eyes. I spent the whole night awake. No sleep. One day went, two days went. Like this, for six days in a row I could not sleep even a wink. My eyes burned and my head ached. My studies were being badly damaged. I was breaking down mentally.
At last, on the seventh day, I managed a little sleep. I slept. But at exactly three o’clock at night, my sleep broke in a very strange way. It felt as if someone had pushed me and sat me up in bed. I sat up with a start, and my chest was pounding. I had never woken up like that in my life. Still I told myself, at least I had slept for an hour and a half or two, that was a lot. But in the days after that, sleep again would not come. A week went by. My condition became so bad that I almost lost the strength to walk.
I was forced to go to a doctor. When he saw my condition, he sent me to a psychiatrist. After hearing me, the psychiatrist said I had anxiety and depression. He gave me sleeping medicine and some medicine to calm my mind. I went back to my room and took the medicine. After taking it, sleep did come, but at three in the night I would wake up by myself, feeling as if someone was forcing me awake. After that, not even a drop of sleep came. I went to the doctor again. The doctor said my problem was not getting better, and he doubled the dose. I came back and took the double dose. But the result was the same. At three at night my sleep broke. And after that, even with the medicine, sleep stopped coming.
I was missing a lot of classes at my university. I thought, I haven’t slept at night, perhaps some sleep will come in the daytime. So I did not go to class. My attendance dropped completely. Meanwhile it felt as if I wanted no people around me. The presence of people was unbearable to me. You know that many commercial areas of Dhaka become completely empty at night. I would go out at night and walk alone into those areas. At night those places were completely dark and silent. Only dogs wandered some streets. I would sit on the dark pavement, sitting alone all night. I would go back to the hostel just before morning.
I went to the doctor again. This time the doctor said I only had depression. He increased the medicine further. But I got no better. Meanwhile another new problem started. In the short time I did sleep, I had very strange dreams. The dreams felt so real that I could not tell it was a dream. And when I woke up, it felt as if I was still trapped inside that dream. I panicked badly and sweated. It felt as if I had been trapped inside a dream and could not get out. Along with it began the loss of my sense of time. I could not remember how time was passing.
The Lost Days
One day something very terrifying happened to me. On a Friday I came back from university, took medicine at night and slept. I had a small test that day. Usually there are no exams at university on Friday, but because the sir was busy, he took the test that day. I got up in the morning, had breakfast, did some assignments and chatted with friends on WhatsApp. That is how the day after Friday, Saturday, passed. Sunday passed like that too. On Monday I took medicine again and slept. When I woke up, I was very happy. I thought, good, tonight I have really slept well. I got ready and went to university. Came back, took the medicine and slept again.
The next morning I got up and saw that my roommates were all sleeping, and my classmate was sleeping too. I thought, today is Tuesday, our class is at half past eight in the morning. At this hour nobody should be sleeping. In a hurry I picked up my phone. Looking at the screen, my eyes nearly popped out. The phone showed that today was Saturday! It should have been Tuesday, but today was Saturday. I thought the date and time on my phone might have gone wrong. I went on Google and checked the date, there too it was Saturday. Slowly I took my friends’ phones and checked them, all showed Saturday. My head was not working. How had I gone three days back? I remember everything! I clearly remember in the past three days who I talked to, what I ate, how I did which assignment. Like a madman I began to check my phone’s call log. I had not called anyone or sent any message. I opened the laptop and checked the assignment folder, all pending. I had done nothing. It felt as if I was going mad. How was this possible?
In those days another big change came over me. When I heard the adhan, I felt terrible irritation. I could not tolerate the adhan. As soon as the adhan began, I would put headphones on my ears and play loud songs. And the most frightening thing is that this felt completely normal to me. There was no remorse in me that I was listening to songs during the adhan. I had also completely given up praying. After the time confusion, my body began to grow weak. I could not even walk properly. Talking to anyone was a struggle. After a lot of thought, I had to arrange words in my mind and then speak. Nothing felt fun any more. I had completely lost my laughter. Even the skin of my body had no feeling. It felt as if I was a living corpse.
I was forced to change doctors again. The new psychiatrist looked at my previous prescriptions and put his hand on his head. He said, “Brother, at the dose you have been taking, you should be asleep twenty-four hours a day. And you are telling me that you cannot sleep!” He changed some of my medicines, but it did no good.
One day, with great difficulty, I made wudu at prayer time and stood for prayer. But after saying “Allahu Akbar” and folding my hands, I forgot everything. My head went completely blank. I could not remember what to recite in prayer, nothing came to mind. I tried hard to remember and could not. Then I began to feel terrible fear of going into ruku. It felt as if, if I went into ruku, I would fall hard on the floor and hit my head badly. If I went into sujood, I would not be able to get up. For this reason I gave up praying.
My eating had completely stopped too. I felt terribly hungry, but when I looked at food I felt like vomiting, and the hunger died. Through the whole day I would barely eat half a roti. Sometimes I would be sitting and suddenly feel like I would faint, everything would black out. After a while when I came to, I would wonder what was happening to me. In these few months I lost about twelve kilograms. I had become a skeleton.
The Hujur, the Taweez and the Dream
My semester final was approaching. But in my state, just looking at a book would make my head spin. I could not focus at all. I told nobody in the hostel. I decided to drop the semester and go home. I went to the university and filled in the form. At that time one of our university sirs, a quite religious person, called me over. He asked, “Son, come here. Why are you dropping the semester?” I said, “Sir, my health is not going well at all. I want to go home.” Sir looked into my eyes and said, “Son, you are getting your medical treatment, do get it, there is no problem with that. But you have some other kind of problem too. Alongside it, get ruhani treatment as well.” I was startled by sir’s words. I only nodded and said, “Yes, sir.” After submitting the form, when I got back to the hostel, I saw that the clock showed three in the morning. I could not understand how it had suddenly gone from day to three at night.
Anyway, I took leave and went home to Khulna. After arriving home, a new problem began. Suddenly I would see spots of blood on my clothes. I did not know where the blood came from. People began to say that someone had done black magic on me. I went to a good hujur (Islamic scholar) in Khulna. Looking at me, he said, “No, this is not black magic. Something has taken hold of you on its own, for some reason.” I asked him to tell me the reason clearly. But one thought was going round in my head, that incident of leaving the box of bones outside. That was what had started everything. The hujur said that he would not discuss the reason any more.
After staying home for a while, I came back to Dhaka. After coming to Dhaka, my sleep became a little normal, and I stopped having dreams. But while in Khulna I had taken a taweez from an imam of our locality. I do not normally believe in taweez. But my condition was so bad that I was ready to do anything to survive. The thread of the taweez was tied in such a way that it could not be taken off my neck without opening the knot. I went around wearing it around my neck.
One night I saw a terrifying dream. In it I saw a very strange, hideous-looking creature lining people up. The creature went to each one and asked in a heavy voice, “Are you a Muslim?” Even in the dream I was surprised, why was a devil speaking like this. Later I heard from the hujur that devils sometimes say such things to use a person’s fear to make them weak. Whoever it asked, when he said “Yes, I am a Muslim,” the creature saw him and screamed in a very terrifying and hideous voice.
I looked away in fear. I saw that on one side lay countless severed heads of girls, and terrible sounds came from those heads. Suddenly that creature came and stood in front of me. It looked at my neck. Then in one tug it tore the taweez given by that imam from my neck and threw it away. The moment the taweez was torn off, I woke up. I saw that there was no quilt or blanket on my body. It was a winter night, terribly cold, I should have been freezing. But I was sweating profusely. I thought I must have thrown off the quilt myself in my sleep. I reached out to pull the quilt. Suddenly my hand touched something hard. I switched on my mobile and saw that it was that very taweez the imam had given me. The knot was still tied as before. But it had come off my neck and was lying on the bed near my hand. How had it come off my neck without the knot being opened? Thinking of this, a cold current ran down my spine.
After I came back to Dhaka, strange things began to happen in my room. It felt as if someone opened my room door, peeked in and went away. I would run and ask my roommates who had peeked through my door. They would say nobody had opened it. I could clearly hear the sound of the door. Things vanished from my hand. Perhaps I would be sitting holding a pen or a key, my attention would wander for a moment and the thing would be gone. Even after searching a lot I could not find it. Another strange thing. In the room of the hujur in Khulna, where I had been treated, a special fragrant incense used to burn. After coming to Dhaka, I started to smell that same fragrance everywhere. It felt as if the scent was coming from beside me.
One day I was walking at university. I met that religious sir. Seeing me, sir said, “Son, how is your health now?” I said, “Yes, sir, a bit better than before.” Sir said, “Did they give you any taweez?” I said, “Yes, sir, they did.” Sir said, “Show it to me.” I showed sir the taweez. Sir took it in his hand and looked at it for a while. Then he looked into my eyes and said, “Son, do you know? Through this taweez that hujur has attached one of his muwakkils, a jinn, to you as a guard. This jinn is with you all the time.” Hearing sir’s words, everything in my head felt jumbled. But some things became clear. I understood why I was smelling incense all the time. Because the muwakkil given by that hujur was with me.
I normally do not believe much in taweez and such things. I thought, I should seek help from Allah. There I was wearing a taweez on my neck, which in my view was complete shirk. I told sir, “Sir, I will not keep this.” I took the taweez off my neck right then and destroyed it. After I destroyed the taweez, the smell of that incense stopped for good. After that, those small strange events in my life slowly began to lessen.
Coming Out the Other Side
Those chapters of my life began towards the end of 2021. And at the beginning of 2023, I was finally able to come out of that terrifying world completely. My sleep became normal and my temper came right. I returned to my cheerful life as before. This was the story of my life.
