Paranormal & Horrifying Experiences
Real Paranormal Experiences from Old Dhanmondi
I am sharing this with you, Rasel bhai, but I am scared even now. I am a timid girl, and I still am. These are the real paranorma experiences of my life, and I have carried them for years.
A Marble Under the Bed
When I was very small, not even in school yet, our home was in Dhanmondi. I will not say exactly where in Dhanmondi, or what the house number was. It was an old-style house, and perhaps this was around 1982. It was a separate house, the kind they built in those days, with a big space at the back, a large lawn in front, and a garage for the car. There were two of us, my brother and me, and he was much older. By the time he was going to school, I had not started yet. Dad went to the office. Mum had a girl at home to help her, and the two of them were busy in the kitchen or with other work most of the time. I played by myself.
I often saw a ball like a marble bouncing under our bed, tuk, tuk, tuk. I wondered what it was. I saw it in the morning or at noon, mostly when I was alone. I would crawl under the bed on my hands and knees to get it. But once I was under the bed, I could not see it. When I crawled back out, I saw it start bouncing again.
This happened almost every day, Rasel bhai. I do not know what it was. It went on for months, and I think for years. I was far too young to think it might be something strange, or to be afraid. Then at some point it stopped. We moved to another house, and it never happened again. Maybe because it lasted so long, this memory from so early in my childhood has stayed with me.
The Face at the Window
Another day, in the same house. By then I had started school, and I think I was in nursery. It was a very early winter morning and I was getting ready for school. One window of our bedroom looked out onto the veranda. Suddenly my eyes fell on it. I saw a face like a cartoon, like the cartoons of our childhood, in many different colours. Only the face, Rasel bhai. It was looking at me with a very faint smile.
I stared at it in surprise. I kept rubbing my eyes and looking again, wondering if I was really seeing it. I got ready, I ate, I tied my shoelaces, and all the while I kept turning to look. It was still there. From one side of the window, only the face showed. I did not tell Mum or Dad. Because it looked like a cartoon, I found it fun. So I only watched.
Someone Behind Me

After that, for a long time, nothing happened. I grew up normally. Then in class nine, I often felt that someone was always behind me, that someone was watching me. I could sense a presence. I think this happens to many people. I told my Nanu, and she gave me something like a taweez. After that, it went away.
The Night the Scent Came
Now another incident. By then I was in intermediate. My father was my grandmother’s only son. He had one sister, my fufu, who was older than he was. When my grandmother passed away, there was nobody left to live in our village home. We had a house and land there, and nobody to look after them. My father did not want to sell the property and move to Dhaka for good. He would not sell it for any reason. So at some point my parents went to the village and left us in Dhaka. I stayed at a relative’s house. My brother was studying at Dhaka University, and he moved into the hall.
I missed my parents terribly. Everyone loves their parents, and so do I. I loved my father a little more, so I missed him badly, and I often cried at night. One day I felt so sad, Rasel bhai, that I cannot explain it. I cried so hard. I felt as if my father had died. I cried exactly the way I had cried when he left. I said, “Allah, why have You left me without parents? Why are You giving me this test?” I made a great many duas and recited many prayers. I remembered all my dead grandparents, my nana and nani, my dada and dadi. I asked Allah to look after my parents. Somewhere in all of this I fell asleep, though I do not remember when.
Suddenly I smelled a very strong scent. I will not say what it was like. It was a soft, lovely smell, like flowers and attar mixed together, something different, but it was very strong, not faint at all. In my sleep I thought my relative’s son, my cousin, must have put on perfume, and the smell had come all the way to my room. Then, still asleep, I suddenly thought, I went to sleep at night. He would not be putting on perfume at this hour.
My eyes opened. Rasel bhai, I could feel perfectly well that I was awake. I was not asleep. But that wonderful smell was still there, and there, and there. I was very frightened, because I understood this was not a normal thing. Very fearfully, I pulled the kantha lying at my feet over my whole body. I was reciting dua, Ayatul Kursi, Surah Fatiha. As I did, I found that the scent was coming under the kantha too. I could smell it clearly.
Then I heard the Fajr adhan. Rasel bhai, the scent stayed for as long as the adhan lasted. The adhan ended. I took a breath, and the scent was still there. I let it out and breathed in again, and it was gone. Not faded, gone. Completely vanished, from strong to nothing. It was not that it slowly became lighter and disappeared. As strong as it had been, in a few seconds it was entirely gone. I was terrified.
I have an aunty who is a very good person. She prays five times a day and fears Allah. We all believe she is a little different, that she can tell many things. In the morning I got up and went straight to her and told her everything. She said, “There is nothing to be afraid of. I think something good came to you.”
Was It My Grandmother?
This is the story I wanted to share, Rasel bhai. I do not know if it is the kind of story that suits Bhoot FM. I am only sharing it with you. It has been in my mind for a very long time. It is a true event of my life. To many people it may be a very small thing. But when I remember it, I get very frightened. And I badly want to know what it really was. What came to me? Did someone come to comfort me? Did my Nanu, my grandmother, or my grandfathers come that night? I cried so much, I missed my parents so much. I remember clearly that I was calling out to my dadi, “Where are you? Can’t you see me?”
I wanted to share one real experience from my life. I do not know if it is worth telling, and if it is chosen, please let me know. I will be very happy. Take care, Rasel bhai. I am always with Bhoot FM and I will stay, as long as Bhoot FM stays. I end with greetings to everyone. Assalamu alaikum.
